Taylor Suzanne Gettinger

SULLIVAN — Taylor Suzanne Gettinger, 19, of rural  Dwight, Ill., formerly of Sullivan, died at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at her residence with her family and friends by her side, after a long battle with cancer.

As a celebration of Taylor's life, visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the Dwight Township High School. Her funeral service will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m., at the school, with the Rev. Lance Leeds officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dwight.

Taylor was born Feb. 5, 1992, in Sullivan County, the daughter of Stinnett and Kathleen Dunne Gettinger.

She is survived by her parents of Dwight; brothers, Stinnett Gettinger and Jackson Gettinger at home in Dwight; paternal grandparents, John and Martha Gettinger of Merom; her best friend, Kate Tock and her puppy, Lulla Belle; aunts and uncles, John (Jackie) Gettinger, Ross Gettinger, Emily (Bob) Condon, Katie (Jim) Akers, all of Merom, Mike, Chris, and Sue Doyle of San Diego, Shawn (Belinda) Dunne of El Cajon, Calif., and Thom (Rita) Dunne of San Diego; and cousins, Jessica, Brad, Atticus, Gettinger, Abby, D.J. , Spencer, Libby, Paul, Maggie, Lainey, Hallie, Hudson, Hayden, Sydney, Wyatt, Nolan, Josie, Eli, Tell, Patrick, and Annily.

Preceding her in death are her maternal grandparents, Bernard and Judy Dunne; and an aunt, Ann Retseck.

Taylor belonged to the United Methodist Church in Dwight. She was a former member of the Girl Scouts and played the flute for Dwight Township High School Band. She graduated in 2010 with Honors.

Team Taylor helped raise more than $60,000 for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Taylor's family would like visitors to her celebration of life to wear their Team Taylor T-shirts or bright colors in her memory.
