BRAZIL — Ruth M. Phillips, 80, of Brazil, died early Tuesday morning, Nov. 6, 2007, at Clay County Healthcare Nursing Home. She was born May 25, 1927, in Herington, Kans., to Harold Rider Cress and Ninetta Marie (Neusbaum). She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis Phillips, whom she married June 21, 1947; seven children, Chris Whitmore of Phoenix, Michelle Hart and her husband Steve of Kansas, Lewis Phillips and his wife Peg of Texas, Hal Phillips and his wife Liz of Illinois, Kenny Phillips of Worthington, Brian Phillips and his wife Lorrie, and Mark Phillips and his wife Ruth, all of Brazil. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, Helen Chezem; and several siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Deborah Schlegel.

She loved crafts, painting, playing bingo, and doing crossword puzzles.

Services will be noon Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Lafayette St., in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Larry Spear officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Friday.
