Rosco Edwin Funkhouser Sr. passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at home in Hemet, Calif. Mr. Funkhouser was born April 8, 1923, in Terre Haute, to Orndolph and Fern Funkhouser. He worked as a coal miner and construction worker and retired from both. He moved to California in 1961.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Fay Funkhouser, whom he married Dec. 22, 1941, in Oakwood, Ill. They were married for 70 years. Mr. Funkhouser is also survived by his children, Julia and Bob Mink of Chino, Calif., Fay Harkey of Hemet, Calif., Janice and Richard Elkin of Corona, Calif., Joyce and Ronnie Biggs of Hemet, Rosco Jr. and Dianna Funkhouser of Banning, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; son-in-law, Darryl Harkey; and one grandson.
Visitation and viewing will be Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m., at McWane Funeral Home, 350 N. San Jacinto St., Hemet, CA. A Memorial Celebration Service will be on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Calvary Foursquare Church, located at 189 S. Santa Fe Ave., in Hemet.
