Marvin S. Sheldon, 84, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center. He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Elmira, N.Y., to the late Chester G. Sheldon and Gertrude Vanderlip; stepfather, Willis C. Vanderlip. He was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Elmira, and was a World War II veteran. He was employed in several glass industries throughout his career, as a glass plant supervisor/operator. He was co-owner of Sheldon’s Grocery in Fort Ashby, W.Va. Lover of family, children, music and dance, with a quick wit and very bubbly personality.

He married Elizabeth A. Sheldon on Oct. 23, 1943, in Omaha, Neb., and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2007.

Survivors include four sons, Michael M. Sheldon and wife Joan of Marietta, Ga., Christopher Sheldon and wife Jan, and William C. Sheldon and wife Judith, all of Terre Haute, and Gregory L. Sheldon and wife Brenda of Belleville, Ill.; six daughters, Colleen Mallory and husband Ed of Oklahoma City, Donna L. Nunnally and husband Ronald of Acworth, Ga., Sandra A. Floyd and husband Thomas of Pine Mountain, Ga., Grace E. Ault and husband Raymond Ault Jr. of Capon Bridge, Laura J. Sours and husband Chip of Fort Ashby, Margie G. Thompson and husband Timothy of Fortson, Ga.; one brother, Richard Sheldon and wife Dottie of Clearwater, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Richard Sheldon; and one daughter, Mary P. Sheldon.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday at DeBaun Funeral Home. Burial is in New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before services Thursday.
