BRAZIL — Marjorie R. Targett, 78, of Brazil passed away April 6, 2006 at 4:18 a.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

She was born August 18, 1927, in Knightsville, the daughter of Daniel Wallace and Ruth Bridgewaters Wallace.

She graduated from Van Buren High School, Class of 1945. On February 28, 1948, she married Robert L. Targett. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2006. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising their children, before entering the work force at CBS. She retired from there in the 1980s. She and her husband owned and operated two restaurants in Clay County. The first was Marj’s Café and the other was the Staunton Restaurant. Marjorie also was a tax preparer for more than 30 years, working for herself. She enjoyed cooking for her family, working puzzles and playing Scrabble.

She is survived by her children, Katherine Burrow and husband Steve of Zion, Ill., Richard Targett and wife Alice, and daughter-in-law Kathy Targett all of Brazil; grandchildren, Dan Eric Targett, Holly Ann Targett, Robert Lee Targett, Joy Marie Frederick, Kate Targett; stepgrandchildren, Robert Rutledge, Anna Marie Whitlow and Steven Rutledge; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one son, Dan Targett; one sister, Betty Ardell; and one brother, Bob Wallace.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday in French Funeral Home. Burial is in Summit Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bobby Targett, Dan Targett, Steven Rutledge, Bob Rutledge, Kirk Frederick and David Pruiett. Visitation is 11 to 1 p.m. Monday.
