Marie Engeborg Satz Goetz, 96, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, in her home with her companion and caregiver, Karen Raubuck. Marie was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 7, 1911, to Erik and Hilda Satz. She and her family emigrated to the United States when she was a young girl. After a few years in Coal City, Ky., they relocated to Terre Haute.

Marie worked for the Oakley Stores, which later became the Kroger Company. Marie married Basil L. “Bud” Goetz on May 31, 1953. Together, they owned and operated Goetz Printing, which is still in business today.

Marie and Bud loved their little country home, and were never happier than when they were out riding their horses. Marie was active in the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and was always at Bud’s side with the Shrine, Masonic Lodge, and anything else he was involved in. They were true soulmates.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Norma Jean Satz and nephew, Dave Satz of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; nephews, Bob Garmong, Jeff Garmong, Greg Garmong and Lucky Beck; and great-nephews, Tommy Garmong, and Chad Beck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harry, Eric and Raymond Satz; her sister, Svea Satz Garmong; and her beloved husband.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Roselawn Memorial Park. After the services, friends and family are invited back to Marie’s home for food, drinks, and a celebration of Marie’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s name may be made to the Southern Care Hospice of Terre Haute.
