Helen Jane Stecker, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at the Royal Oaks Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 14, 1919, in Terre Haute to Jesse D. and Lela Barnett McCombs.

She was a graduate from Wiley High School and from Indiana Business College. She worked for more than 20 years at Sackriders Accounting Firm. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the intelligence division where she received accommodations for her work from several government officials. She retired from the Navy as a Specialist 1st Class.

She was a member of AARP, former member of the American Legion Post 346 and former member of the Altrusa Club. She loved puzzles, picture painting and crafts and was a loyal ISU fan.

Survivors include two sons, C. Earl Stecker and wife Rosyati of Grants, N.M., and Lloyd E. Stecker and wife Lynn of Bloomington; grandson, Ryan Michael Stecker of Terre Haute; two sisters, Dorothy C. Herrold of LaPorte, and Betty R. Calvert of Terre Haute; two nieces, Deborah Calvert, and Donna Kingston and husband Mel; three nephews, Steve Calvert his wife Susan and their son Aaron, Dick Herrold and wife Julianna, and Bob Herrold and wife Ann. Her parents and grandson Jason Edward Stecker preceded her in death.

Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Memorial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum.
