Gareth E. Pipes, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away March 25, 2009, in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Jasonville, Ind. Born March 13, 1924 in Jasonville, he was the son of Harry Pipes and Bonnie (Hardesty) Pipes. He married Martha Duncan and she preceded him on July 29, 2003.

Gareth was a graduate from Jasonville High School. He attended Indiana State University. He retired from Pfizer after 35 years working as a purchasing agent. He was a member of the Lawton Street Christian Church, Elks Lodge and past president of the Jasonville Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included golf, fly fishing and spending winters in Florida. He was a very devoted husband and father.

Survivors include his son, Doug Pipes and wife Connie of Lexington, Ky.; two grandchildren, Christopher Pipes of Cold Spring, Ky., and Ashley Pipes of Chicago; a sister, Glowdene Sweet and husband Dick of Jasonville; nieces, Beth Sexton of Oakland City, Ind., Pam Witt and husband Ed of Jasonville; nephew, Chip Sweet and wife Pam of Jasonville, and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and wife preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville. Services are at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to the ISU Foundation/School of Nursing, care of Martha J. Pipes Memorial Nursing Scholarship, 217 N. 6th St., Terre Haute, IN 47805, or to the charity of choice.
