Charlotte Bryant Swenson, 91, of Terre Haute, died at 1:02 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, in Union Hospital. She was born on Oct. 8, 1917, in Woodstock, Vt., to Harold Reed and Helen Glee. She was a nurse at Union Hospital for 40 years and worked in the labor and delivery department. After Union Hospital, she continued working doing physical exams for insurance companies until she was 83.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. C. Robert “Bob” Swenson; sons, Dick Swenson and wife Delisa, Dave Swenson and wife Regina; daughters, Marty Branson and husband Denny, LouAnn Higgins and husband “Corky”; brother, Dana Washburn; 10 grandchildren, Mike McGuire, Jay Watson and wife Amy, Aaron Swenson, Jonathan Swenson and Diane, James Trusty and Megan, Candace Swenson, Adriene Higgins, Will Higgins and wife Lindsay, Cole Higgins and Nick Swenson; great-grandchildren, six plus one on the way; and all the great girls at Denny’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a child, Ruth Edla.

She graduated in 1939 from Rhode Island School of Nursing. Internship was in Belleview Hospital in New York City. She was an active member of Prairie Park Baptist Church, Girl Scout Eaglette and Purdue Extension Homemakers Course Club.

She and her husband operated Rescue Mission in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City, and renewed vows on their 40th wedding anniversary. She played piano for her church and loved to paint with oils, and sang with the local Coral group. She never forgot birthdays or anniversaries, always thought about others before herself and was a lifelong Soldier of God.

Funeral services are 1 p.m Monday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 N. Lafayette Avenue, with the Rev. Allen McQueen officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 Sunday in the funeral home.
