Charles O. “Jim” Snider, age 71, of Marshall, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2010, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Charleston. He was born June 23, 1938, in Redmon, to Charles Kermit and Lula Mae (Weaver) Snider. He married Mary Simpson in 1962 in Philson. Jim was a retired welder.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Lora and Scott Athey of Terre Haute, Ind., Connie and Greg Hamilton, and Mary Ann “Frog” and Alfred Morgan, and Pam Marshall, all of Marshall; three sisters, Margaret Ryals of Paris, Mary Flenner of Robinson, and Virginia Gardner of Bellview, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Lula Mae Boyer.
His first employment was at Caterpillar in Joliet. He later worked at JI Case as a welder in Terre Haute. He farmed and had been employed at Edington’s Wrecker Service, where he played his best in cards.
Funeral services will be at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. Sixth St., at noon CDT Saturday, with the Rev. Penny Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Embarras Cemetery, in Edgar County, with graveside military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975 and Clark County Post 90 American Legion. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
