SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Brian Joseph Hegarty, 35, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 1, 2009, in Santa Clara, Calif., where he had made his home for several years. Brian was born in Salt Lake City on Aug. 16, 1973. He was raised in Scottsdale, Ariz., graduated from Brophy College Preparatory before continuing his education at Santa Clara University, where he earned his master’s degree. He made the Santa Clara community his home, earning his doctorate of education at the University of San Francisco while working the past nine years at St. Clare Catholic School, where it was recently announced that in August he would be assuming duties as school principal.

He is survived by his parents, Paul W. and Mary Alice Hegarty; siblings, Paul R. and his wife Linnea, Michael, Matt and Tim; his nephew, Jackson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brian succeeded in making everyone’s lives better. Students, parents of students and fellow teachers all agree he always had a smile on his face, was the first to volunteer and was “just one of those guys who was cool.”
