The Brazil Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a wanted man in connection with a shooting on Saturday.
Police are looking for Jay Samuel Ellis, 24, who is described as an approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall white man weighing about 120 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair.
Police said Ellis should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Police said Ellis is wanted for questioning following a shooting in Central West Village on Saturday evening in Brazil. Ellis is also wanted on warrants charging dealing in methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine.
Several people were involved in the incident late Saturday inside an apartment at the Village on Jackson Street, police Chief Clint McQueen said Sunday.
All were gone by the time police arrived, including the victim, he said.
“That person was transported to another location on the western side of the county and dropped off,” McQueen said. “Persons there found out he had been shot and called police.”
The man was taken to a Terre Haute hospital and later transferred to Indianapolis. He did not identify the man and had no information about his condition.
Police have arrested one person but “there are multiple other people involved,” McQueen said.
Clay County Jail records show Cody Wampler, 23, of adjacent Jackson Gardens apartments, was booked for resisting arrest and was being held Sunday night under $14,000 bond.
Anyone with information on this case or the possible whereabouts of Ellis is asked to call the Clay County Dispatch Center at 812-446-2535 extension 5.
