The Clinton woman struck and killed Sunday by a CSX train in Clinton has been identified as 41-year-old Deborah Wilbanks.
Clinton Police Chief Billy MacLaren said no other information will be released as the investigation continues. The autopsy report is pending and could take a few weeks.
Clinton Police were notified about 6:45 a.m. Sunday that a person had been struck by a train between the 800 and 900 block of North 7th Street. Investigators from the city, Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, coroner’s office and CSX remained at the scene until about noon Sunday.
It is unknown if the woman, who was not in a vehicle, was trying to cross the railroad tracks or had been walking along the tracks before being struck.
Coroner Roger Lewis said an autopsy was conducted Monday by forensic pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr in Terre Haute.
A CSX statement said no injuries occurred to the CSX crew on the train. Rail operations resumed at 11:32 a.m. Sunday.
