A Vigo County man was housed in jail Thursday on an allegation of a sexual assault dating back to August.

Richard T. Fulk, 22, Terre Haute, was arrested by State Police on Wednesday on an allegation of sexual battery, a class-D felony.

According to a media release issued by police, Fulk arranged to turn himself in to Clay County Sheriff’s deputies in response to a Vigo County Superior Court Division 6 warrant issued Oct. 16.

According to the release, the alleged assault occurred Aug. 10 when Fulk reportedly drove an 18-year-old female from Terre Haute to a rural residence near Riley and tried to have sex with her.

Fulk allegedly fondled the woman many times despite being told repeatedly to stop.

The woman, an “acquaintance” of Fulk’s, was then driven back to Terre Haute by Fulk and the two parted ways, the release said. An ISP investigation began Aug. 16.

Fulk’s bail in the Vigo County jail was set at $15,000, no 10 percent allowed.

Fulk appeared in Superior Court Division 6 on Thursday for a probable-cause hearing and will return to court Monday.

A person convicted of a class-D felony can be imprisoned up to three years and fined a maximum of $10,000.
