Two people were hurt in a single-vehicle accident about 8 p.m. Sunday at the Interstate 70 Cumberland Rest Area (mile marker 149) near Marshall, Illinois, according to Illinois State Police.
Troopers said a Silver 2007 Toyota Rav4 driven by Jonas B. King, 81, Goshen, Indiana, was traveling west on I-70 and entering the rest area. The compact SUV failed to reduce speed at a curve and went off the pavement and down an embankment, dropping about 100 feet and coming to rest in a creek.
The driver and passenger Esther King, 78, also of Goshen, were taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
