A Terre Haute man who's retired from the Air National Guard has won $1.56 million in the Hoosier Lottery's CA$H 5 game, according to the lottery.
The man, whom the lottery calls "Daniel C" in a news release, bought his winning ticket the night of Feb. 20, at the Casey's store at 7279 Indiana 46 in Riley. He was at the lottery headquarters the next morning to claim his prize.
The lottery said Daniel plays CA$H 5 almost daily, and he always buys his tickets at Casey’s.
“Usually I check them in the morning, and last night I thought, ‘I’m going to check it before I go to bed,’” Daniel said.
He immediately told his wife, and they checked over the ticket and the winning numbers multiple times.
“This can’t be happening,” his wife recalled saying.
They waited until the Hoosier Lottery’s website updated to show the next day’s CA$H 5 jackpot, which reset to $75,000, the starting jackpot.
The lottery said Daniel is retired from the Indiana Air National Guard in Terre Haute. He and his wife were still deciding what to do with their prize money. They are considering paying off their house.
CA$H 5 is the only Hoosier Lottery daily Draw game with a rolling jackpot. The jackpot starts at $75,000 and increases by at least $5,000 every day until someone matches all five numbers.
CA$H 5 jackpot odds are 1 in 1,221,759. CA$H 5 Overall Odds are 1 in 11.
