Austin Wilson

Terre Haute Police are investigating a shooting after, police said, a man broke into his parents’ home on Hendricks Street and attacked his father late Thursday.

Austin Wilson, 34, was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. Wilson now faces pending criminal charges.

Police were sent at 9:50 p.m. to 1712 Hendricks St. where they spoke to Donald Wilson, who said he shot his son Austin after his son kicked in the door to the house and advanced toward him.

Police learned Austin Wilson had been at the residence at about 9 a.m. and got into an altercation with his father. Wilson reportedly tried to strangle his father at that time, but stopped when his mother threatened to call police. Austin Wilson then fled the residence.

Austin Wilson faces preliminary charges of intimidation, battery, strangulation and residential entry upon his release from the hospital.

The investigation continues and new information will be forwarded to the Vigo County Proecutor’s Office, police said.
