More retail and fast food spots are slated for development on Terre Haute’s east side, just off Interstate 70.

A 10,175-square-foot building for Starbucks is under construction now in front of Meijer grocery store, next to its gasoline station, fronting Indiana 46/U.S. 40.

Development for a new Wendy’s has been approved at the state and city level for construction at 2503 S. Indiana 46, which is just south of a branch for First Financial Bank, also fronting Indiana 46/U.S. 40.

“That will be a 2,813-square-foot building on 1.27 acres,” said assistant City Engineer Marcus Maurer.

Additionally, Terre Haute Shoppes, a business strip being developed by Terre Haute Retail Partners, will house a Belle Tire and three other spots for retail. Belle Tire is a tire, wheel and automotive service retailer headquartered in Allen Park, Michigan.

Terre Haute Shoppes is to be a 7,744-square-foot building.

The development’s address is 5500 to 5510 E. New Margaret Ave., which is on the north side of New Margaret Avenue, just north of the new Aldi grocery store.

“There will be a private road [constructed] that will connect New Margaret to the new drive by Aldi, so the building will be on that private road,” Maurer said. “You will access that like going to Meijer.”

“That development has also been approved with three other units,” Maurer said. The units are 35 feet by 70 feet; 33 1/2 feet by 70 feet; 24 feet by 70 feet; and 17 1/2 feet by 70 feet, Maurer said.

In another area, a former gasoline station at Third and Hulman Streets is being demolished, however, no designs for new construction have been submitted with the city or state.
