An Avon man died and a Mooresville man was injured in a July 4 motorcycle crash on U.S. 36 in Parke County.

Robert E. Klein, 58, died at the scene of the 1 p.m. crash at the intersection of U.S. 46 and Walker Ramp Road east of Raccoon Lake, according to the Parke County Sheriff's Office.

Jaime Balingit, 60, was taken to Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville for treatment of his injuries.

The accident investigation revealed both men were riding motorcycles eastbound on U.S. 36. Balingit slowed to make a left turn onto Walker Ramp Road when Klein, who was behind Balingit, collided with the rear of Balingit's motorcycle.

Both riders were ejected from their motorcycles. Klein was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Balingit was wearing a helmet, but suffered minor bleeding in his mouth and sustained other injuries including bleeding to his knee. He was conscious, alert and walking around at the scene, but was disoriented and unsure of what had occurred, police said.

Assisting deputies at the scene were Indiana State Police accident reconstructions and the Parke County Coroner's Office.

One person has died and another was injured in a Parke County traffic accident involving two motorcycles.

The accident happened about 1 p.m. today at Indiana 36 and Walker Ramp Road east of Raccoon Lake, according to the Parke County Sheriff's Office.

One of the motorcycles stopped to make a left-hand turn, and the second motorcycle failed to stop, causing the crash and throwing both drivers from their vehicles, according to the sheriff's office.

The motorcycle driver who failed to stop was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The other driver, who had stopped to make a turn, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
