Interstate 70 semi rollover accident claims life of one

One person died in a semitrailer rollover near the 7-mile marker on westbound Interstate 70 in Vigo County about 8:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Indiana State Police.

ISP Putnamville said preliminary investigation indicated  a 2016 semi driven by Shiraf Shafiullah, 32, of Louisville, Kentucky, was westbound on I-70 when, for an unknown reason, Shafiullah’s vehicle ran off the interstate and into the median. The semi tractor-trailer proceeded to get caught in the cable barrier located in the median and rolled over onto the driver’s side. 

Shafiullah was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Vigo County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday. The family has been notified.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor of the accident.

Assisting ISP were Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Terre Haute Police Department, Vigo County Coroner's Office, and Peffley and Hinshaw Wrecker Service.
