A rollover accident on Interstate 70 Thursday morning resulted in the hospitalization of a semi driver from Illinois, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames.
Jessie B. Conner, 52, of Bellville, Illinois, was taken to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute and treated for head and neck injuries.
Conner rolled his semi at 10 a.m. near the 10-mile marker on I-70, police said. Police said Conner was driving just west of the State Road 46 exit and, for an unknown reason, drove off the interstate and into a guardrail.
Police said Conner’s truck continued traveling eastbound, striking over 300 feet of guardrail. Once it cleared the guardrail, it rolled over onto the passenger side and came to a rest in a ditch.
Eastbound travel was reduced down to one lane for approximately four hours while crews cleaned up the accident scene.
Sergeant Joe Rutledge said the accident could have been life threatening if the driver wasn’t wearing his seat belt.
Assisting ISP was Terre Haute Fire Department, Indiana Department of Transportation and Lambert’s Towing Service.
