A bridge project will force lane closures beginning next week on a short stretch of U.S. 40 in eastern Vigo County.
Placement of driving surface overlays on the bridges over Snake Creek east of Seelyville is scheduled to begin on or after Monday, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Work will begin on the left lane of the westbound bridge to strengthen the shoulder so traffic can shift during construction and will then move to the eastbound bridge. The project is scheduled to be completed by July 9.
The overlay uses a substance that reduces the penetration of de-icing material and improves skid resistance, the release said.
A $963,360 contract awarded to Vincennes-based CLR Inc. also includes installation of similar overlays on the Indiana 641 bridge over Honey Creek and the Indiana 234 bridge over the Wabash River east of Cayuga.
The completion for all three projects is Aug. 31.
