The Sonshine Puppeteers will present their 11th annual Christmas musical at 6 p.m. CST Sunday at The Presbyterian Church of Paris (Ill.).
This year’s musical is titled “Christmas Shorts: ‘A Christmas Parade,’ ‘From Our Herd to Your Herd, Merry Christmas,’ and ‘Have an ADVENTurous Christmas.’”
The musical centers around the opening of Christmas cards that reflect the three different musical scenes: a peppy American Christmas parade, cowboys competing in their annual Cactus County Cowboy Carolers Christmas Competition, and a group preparing for the celebration of a joyous and symbolic Advent season. All three groups reflect on the birth of Christ.
The variety of puppet characters includes such personalities as Beth Garland, Kirk Holiday, C.C. Festivus, Burna Wick, Awreatha Green, the Gift Rappers, Nativity Speakers, and Smokey, Cookey and Sage.
Attendees will enjoy puppet presentations of some familiar Christmas carols as well as several new songs, many of which are upbeat, and some of which are quite lyrical. The puppets’ colorful costumes are also part of the fun.
The Sonshine Puppeteers range from fourth graders to adults. Puppeteers and propateers present the musical with their rod-arm 18-inch puppets and with hand-created props behind a tiered stage of royal blue curtains with the hanging logo banner of the team.
No tickets are required in advance for the musical, but a free-will offering will be taken.
Those attending are invited to stay for light refreshments following the program, which will be complete in approximately one hour.
The Presbyterian Church is at 241 W. Court St. in Paris.
