Jay Etling has resigned as the Vigo County School Corp. business manager and director of purchasing.

In response to a Tribune-Star public records request, the district provided a copy of Etling's letter of resignation, which "was e-mailed to me today [Tuesday] and received at 12:20 p.m. It will be in the April 9 board personnel report," according to Mick Newport, director of human resources.

The letter states:

"To whom it may concern, this is a notice of my resignation effective Feb. 5, 2018."

The letter does not state a reason for the resignation.

The Tribune-Star first began asking about Etling's status in early February, when sources indicated he no longer worked in the administration building.

Etling had no comment when contacted by phone Tuesday.

On Friday, Newport again responded to a Tribune-Star inquiry, stating, "It is our policy not to discuss personnel issues or concerns."

As of Feb. 6 and 14, Newport indicated in emails that Etling was still employed by the district, but he did not provide further details.

Etling had been with the school district since 2002.

According to Newport, the district has "not had an opportunity to address this vacancy."

According to Etling's Linked In account, in his role with the district, he had advised the chief financial officer on matters related to costs and budgets; he served as project manager for new and renovation construction projects; supervised the bid process of purchases and requests for price quotations; reviewed and supervised the issuance of purchase orders; was responsible for the establishment and maintenance of vendor relations; and served as a member of the budget review, capital projects fund, cash balance forecast and benefits review committees.
