What do 5,600 pounds of sliced strawberries, 6,500 sweet biscuits, 564 pounds of ice cream and 400 pounds of whipped topping have in common?

The 31st annual First Congregational Church Strawberry Fest, the unofficial kick off to summer.

This year’s event is set for June 13 at Sixth and Ohio streets. Serving begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m. The Works for $6 is the most popular order. It features a sweet biscuit covered in strawberries, ice cream and whipped topping. Or you can purchase any combinations of the ingredients.

Call ahead for pick-up orders of four or more on Wednesday at 812-232-8880 or by using the form at www.FirstChurchTH.org. Call-ahead orders can be picked up in the basement, by using the east entrance of the church. Short-term parking for pick-up orders will be in the east church parking lot. Take coolers or boxes for large orders.

Music will begin at 11 a.m. with a mix of local music groups. The Ladies Guild at the church will sell a variety of strawberry-themed items. First Financial Bank will provide free parking in the lot directly across from the church.

The Strawberry Fest committee, church and new pastors Kathi and Jim Elliott would like to express a heartfelt thank-you to all the community volunteers who help make the event a success year after year. It does take a community to serve over 9,500 servings of The Works on one day.
