Elsie M. Burnett, 85, of Terre Haute died Tuesday Nov. 20, 2007 at 10:55 p.m. in Southwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 18, 1922 in Jasonville, to Fred and Pearl Pigg Helton. She was a longtime member of Farmers Chapel Community Church and had earlier in her life belonged to the Jolly Pals and the Honey Creek Home Ec Club. She was a championship cook and wedding cake baker. She was proud to be a farmer’s wife and also worked outside the home as a school bus driver, a cook for the former Honey Creek High School and at Fannie Mae Candies Store.

Survivors include her son, Larry Burnett and wife Romie; her daughter, Deanna Hayhurst and her grandson, Chad Burnett. There are nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Jiggs” Burnett; her parents; a sister, Eva Oeffler; and two brothers, Wayne and Everett Helton.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Revs. Harold Throckmartin and Tom Norris officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday and 1:30 until service time on Saturday.
