In Indiana's first virtual gubernatorial debate, the three candidates shared opposing methods for handling the COVID-19 pandemic, mask mandates and closing nonessential businesses.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb was making the rounds Saturday as part of his re-election campaign and made one of his stops at the Sullivan County Republican Lincoln Day event in Shelburn. Some 70-plus turned out to see the governor and hear his platform and plan for building on his past four years in office.
Although final unofficial results weren't available Tuesday night, it appears incumbent Republican State Rep. Bruce Borders will again represent Indiana House District 45 in the fall general election.
Republicans Travis L. Norris, Steven B. Neice, and Thomas William (Tom) Bogigian will advance to the November election after winning the top three spots in the primary election race Tuesday for at-large seats on the Vigo County Council.
Voter turnout in Vigo County was 25.58 percent for Tuesday's Primary Election. There were 18,261 ballots cast out of 71,378 registered voters.
Three candidates — Don Morris, Marie Belzile-Theisz and incumbent Aaron Loudermilk — have won the Democratic primary for Vigo County Council at large and will advance to the November election, with all precincts reporting and unofficial results.
In a tight race for the Democratic nomination for the judgeship in Vigo County Superior Court Division 5, Matthew Sheehan edged Matthew Effner by a tally of 5,814 votes to 5,575, or 51.05% to 48.95%.
Six Republicans and four Democrats ran for the three at-large spots at stake in the fall. In the Democrat primary, the winners were Timothy W. Abrams and Larry E. Kinnett [both incumbents] and Jack R. Mize. Also running was John T. Clark III. Abrams had 1,186 votes; Kinnett, 1,121; Mize, 907; and Clark, 806. On the Republican ticket, Jackie Monk had 1,113 votes; Matt Chickadaunce, 1,034; and Wes Scarbrough, 956. Jeffrey Scales had 830 votes, Robert Cloutier, 672 and Robert Baize, 406.
