TERRE HAUTE — The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and Fort Detrick was to host a Change of Command ceremony Friday at Fort Detrick, Md.

Maj. Gen. James K. Gilman will relinquish command to Brig. Gen. (promotable) Joseph Caravalho Jr. Caravalho is taking command following an assignment as the commanding general of the Northern Regional Medical Command.

Gilman has been the Fort Detrick and USAMRMC commander since 2009. The Change of Command ceremony also marks his retirement from the Army, culminating a distinguished 35-year-career as a military leader and clinician. Gilman is a native of Hymera.
