Find your roots at the Marshall Public Library

Marshall Public Library’s Genealogy Department has many tools to help researchers discover their family roots. On-site resources available include a collection of local history books and binders, marriage and probate record indexes, cemetery surname index and locator maps, plat books and land records, Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, Marshall High School yearbooks dating back to 1912 and newspapers on microfilm from 1865 to 2012.

The library also offers free access to Ancestry.com Library Edition. While this service is only available inside the library, it is wirelessly accessible from a personal laptop with no time restrictions. Ancestry offers access to millions of records including census, marriage, divorce, birth, death and more.

Also online, but accessible from any device with an Internet connection, is the library’s genealogy page at www.sites.google.com/site/mplgenealogy. This site features information about the library’s on-site resources, and links to online resources for Clark County as well as every state.

A portion of the library’s oldest newspapers on microfilm has been digitized and indexed as a result of an ongoing project funded by Friends of Marshall Public Library. It is now possible to search for information contained in local newspapers as far back as 1865 by visiting marshall.advantage-preservation.com.

For more information or for assistance with these resources, contact the library at 217-826-2535 or at

marshallpubliclibrary@gmail.com.
