CASA set to train new group of volunteers

News Release

---- — Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, believes that every child deserves a safe and permanent home. CASA will begin training a new group of volunteers on Nov. 1.

Volunteers advocate for children of abused and neglected homes; they become a voice for the children in court. Each child’s case is a little different.

The training is comprised of 30 hours pre-service training covering topics including the role of the CASA volunteer, laws, report writing and understanding children and families. In addition, there will be juvenile courtroom observation.

The latest class of CASA volunteers include Charlotte Barker, Elaine Brown, Kendra Brown, William Chagnon, Kaki Coleman, Joe Dunagan, Brigitte Gardner, Teresa Kalber and Patricia Whitman.

Anyone in the community who wants to get involved should contact the Vigo County CASA office at 812-231-5658, email nikki.fuhrmeister@
