Our Green Valley Alliance Oct. 31 to honor sustainability efforts

Our Green Valley Alliance for Sustainability will honor sustainability initiatives and efforts at its upcoming conference on Oct. 31.

“So many people and organizations are doing wonderful work to improve the quality of life in the Valley,” said OGVA president Lorrie Heber. “By honoring them, we not only thank them but provide an example for others to follow.”

During the conference lunch on Oct. 31, OGVA will award one individual, one nonprofit or school, and one corporation for their work to increase awareness and/or improvements in OGVA’s focus areas. These areas are: sustainable food; energy consumption; waste stream management; bikeable, walkable, livable communities; social justice; and environmental stewardship.

The individual award has special significance, as it bears the name of OGVA’s founder, the late Sister Jeanne Knoerle. The Sister Jeanne Knoerle Sustainability Award is a tribute to a true pioneer of sustainability in our community.

“Sister Jeanne was a great mentor, friend and role model. She worked tirelessly to advance sustainability in our part of the world. It's only fitting that we honor her legacy with this award,” Heber said.

To nominate an individual or entity for an award, visit While anonymous submissions are not accepted, self-nominations will be allowed. Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 25.
