The Purdue University and University of Illinois Extension Bi-State Agriculture Programs group is hosting a Crop Water Management Conference at 9:15 a.m. Jan. 24 at the Beef House Restaurant, 16501 Indiana 63, in Covington. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m.
Those interested in groundwater, irrigation and drainage issues are welcome to attend. The morning topics and presenters include: Groundwater Availability and Your Legal Responsibility by Mark Basch, Indiana DNR, Division of Water; Irrigation, Chemigation & Fertigation, by Lyndon Kelly, irrigation educator, Michigan State and Purdue University; and Wellhead Protection, by Kelly Pearson, Purdue Extension educator.
Following the buffet lunch, Drainage Methods to Reduce Fertilizers & Pesticides in Drainage Water will be presented by Larry Brown, professor in the Department of Food Agriculture & Biological Engineering, Ohio State University; and Two Stage Ditch: Implementation & Evaluation, by Kent Wamsley, project manager for Wabash River Initiative, The Nature Conservancy.
The cost for both the program and the buffet lunch is $20, payable at the door. An additional $10 is required to earn Indiana Private Applicator Recertification Program, Certified Crop Advisor (approved for 4.5 Soil & Water credits) or Indiana Commercial Pesticide Applicator (pending approval) credits.
