Kirlin’s Hallmark seeking ‘Sentiments for Soldiers’ donations through Aug. 31

Kirlin’s Hallmark in Honey Creek Mall will be accepting donations to help purchase boxes of Christmas and holiday cards for troops in the 10th year of the Sentiments for Soldiers program.

The assorted boxes regularly retail for $9.99, but will be sold for a $5 tax-free donation when purchased for Sentiments for Soldiers, which runs through Aug. 31. During past years, Kirlin’s has collected more than 2.75 million Christmas cards that have been sent to Iraq, Afghanistan and military hospitals in the United States.

Sentiments for Soldiers allows soldiers to be a part of their families’ Christmas celebrations. Many of the soldiers send notes expressing their gratitude for the donations.

“We would like to extend a thank-you to Kirlin’s Hallmark and their customers for the box of wonderful holiday cards you sent us,” one soldier stationed in Afghanistan wrote. “Knowing that people like your organization support and think of us not only gives us a sense of worth, but gives us the drive to complete our mission and come back home. It is because of people like you [that] we are able to do what we do.”
