Join Friends of Marshall Public Library

June is membership month and Friends of Marshall Public Library in Marshall, Ill., are asking members to renew and others to join the group.

During the past year the group has: conducted an annual “Members Only” program; promoted reading; provided refreshments for children’s programs; began digitizing newspapers on microfilm beginning with those from the 1800s; continued to collect interviews for the oral history program; participated in the Main Street Program Adopt-a-Flower Pot Project; helped fund the establishment of “Little Library Outposts” outside of Marshall; decorated a library window display in December; challenged Marshall fifth-graders in a “Read to Feed” program and donated to Heifer International for their efforts, and later staged a celebration program for the students who completed the challenge; continued to sell donated and deleted materials, and received funds from their ink cartridge recycling program.

They funded more than $4,600 in purchases for the library, including funding many children’s programs, adult reading program prizes, small equipment and supplies, a sign at the baseball field and a subscription to Ancestry.com.

The activities of the Friends are vital to making the library a special part of the community.

Membership dues are $5 for an individual or $10 or an entire family.

Larger donations are appreciated.
