Rosedale Strawberry Fest queen program set

News Release

---- — The queen scholarship program will be the main focus at the June 7 opening of the Rosedale Strawberry Festival. Each year the festival’s newly crowned queen receives a $500 college scholarship grant and a cash stipend for books or personal needs. The queen will also advance to the Parke County Fair pageant. She may also opt to represent the event in the $3,000 Miss Indiana State Festivals pageant in November in Indianapolis, as did 2012’s queen Page Fetter, who performed well.

Candidates for Miss Strawberry Queen must be Parke County residents, ages 16-21; single and not a mother; a high school graduate or enrolled in schooling; and possess good moral character. Advance entries are encouraged, but a few additional entries will be accepted up to Tuesday.

Preliminary judging will be done at the Queen’s Tea at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Formal dress finals will be on stage Friday night at the festival. Contestants will receive points compiled on their application statements, Queens’ Tea interview, ability to converse, poise, appearance and style, and an on-stage pop question.

A festival Junior Miss will be crowned following the Strawberry Queen coronation. Contestants for this pageant must be between the ages of 11 and 15 on the first day of the festival and possess qualities akin to those expected of the queen. However, they need not be Parke County residents.  They too are expected to attend the Queen’s Tea where preliminary judging will also be done. They will also compete on stage Friday night of the festival, although their dress standard is less formal.

Fees for entry are $20 for Miss Strawberry and $10 for Junior Miss. Some sponsorships are available to cover these fees. More information and copies of applications are available by contacting Judi Hartman at The Hair Hut on Rosedale’s Main Street, at (765) 548-2162 or 548-0490, or through her Facebook page. Applications and rules are also available in pdf format at historicrosedale.wordpress.com.
