‘Helping Heroes’ volunteers to serve veterans Nov. 9

The Housing MAPPING Team, known as City Wide Pride, will have a “Helping Heroes” event from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 9 in Martinsville, Ill., to assist veterans and their families by doing odd jobs around their homes.

Volunteers from the City Wide Pride Committee, city members and students from Eastern Illinois University are serving in an effort to help the community maintain pride in their properties. Examples of work could include trimming low-hanging branches or bushes, cleaning gutters, washing windows, moving large items or sweeping sidewalks.

Those wanting to volunteer should meet at 8:15 a.m. at Martinsville High School, 300 W. Cumberland St. Veterans and other Martinsville residents can call Marlene at Martinsville City Hall to request this free service at 217-382-4323.
