GFS Marketplace is teaming up with The Salvation Army and radio station WBOW-FM 102.7 to collect nonperishable food items for the food pantry.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22, just drop off any nonperishable food item at GFS Marketplace on South Seventh Street.
Those who make donations will get three frozen turkeys to bowl. Scores will be tallied and the person whose turkeys knock down the most pins will win a thanksgiving meal for up to eight people.
“Having fun is what we are all about,” says Brad Smith, GFS assistant manager.
Major Bailey of The Salvation Army says this event has generated buzz among others in the ranks. “We’ve shared this event idea with others in our organization across the U.S. and they have said, take pictures. This sounds like a great time.”
Radio station WBOW-FM 102.7 will broadcast live and have giveaways and T-shirts for the first 30 bowlers. GFS will offer free food sampling all day.
