CCC veterans plan picnic Oct. 10
Veterans of the Civilian Conservation Corps will be honored at Fort Harrison State Park with a statewide reunion on Oct. 10 at the park’s Camp Glenn from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
CCC veterans and their families are invited for a picnic lunch at noon, followed by a reunion photograph. An oral history booth will be provided for veterans wishing to record their CCC memories. Children and families can enroll in the CCC for the day and experience camp life in an interactive camp setting.
Interpretive naturalists will provide walking tours of historic Camp Glenn throughout the day, and the afternoon will be filled with scheduled interpretive programs by guest speakers, including Fred Wooley, Pokagon State Park interpretive naturalist, and Foster Brown, singer/songwriter/storyteller from Cleveland Metro Parks.
CCC veterans can register for the event by contacting Vicki Basman, DNR Division of State Parks and Reservoirs chief of interpretation, at (317) 234-4926 or vbasman@dnr.IN.gov.
Attendance is free; however, the usual state park daily weekend gate fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle applies.
