The Vigo County Parks Department manages a variety of parks, nature preserves and amenities. You can find everything you need to get away within Vigo County. Visit any of the parks below:
Terre Haute parks
n Deming Park, 500 Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN, (812) 232-0147. It has 177 acres. The park contains shelters, a concession booth, pavilions, picnic areas, a playground, pool, fishing area, baseball field, soccer field, tennis courts, basketball hoops, horseshoe pits, volleyball court, exercise course, flying disc golf course and a train for rides.
• Dobbs Memorial Park, 5150 E. Poplar St., Terre Haute, IN, (812) 232-2727. It has 105 acres. The park contains shelters, picnic areas, a playground, fishing area, three miles of nature trails. The park also is home to a Nature Center, (812) 877-1095: Activities include The Native American Museum, (812) 877-6007.
• Fairbanks Park, South First Street and Dresser Drive, (812) 232-2727. It has 146 acres and borders the Wabash River. The park contains shelters, pavilions, picnic areas, a playground, boating and fishing areas, an exercise course and a newly remodeled amphitheater. Activities include the Wabash Valley Festival, Fourth of July celebration, Terre Haute Symphony performances.
• Collett Park, Seventh Street and Maple Avenue, Terre Haute, IN, (812) 232-2727. It has 21 acres. The historic park contains shelters, a pavilion, picnic areas, a playground, soccer field, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, volleyball court.
Other smaller city parks: Brittlebank Park at 20th and Grant streets, Curtis Gilbert Park at 14th Street and Wabash Avenue, Coy Park at 16th Street and Barbour Avenue, Herz-Rose Park at 15th and Locust streets, Memorial Park at Eighth Avenue and Fourth Street, Sheridan Park (has swimming pool) at 28th and Beech streets, Spencer F. Ball Park at 15th Street and Eighth Avenue, Thompson Park at 17th and Oak streets, Voorhees Park (has swimming pool) at Voorhees Street and Indiana 63, Washington Park at 13th Street and College Avenue.

Hawthorn Park and JI Case Wetland Wildlife Refuge, 6067 E. Old Maple Ave., Terre Haute, (812) 462-3391.
R. Kermit Flesher Memorial State Nature Preserve, in the bottom land of Prairie Creek Township, just west of the little town of Hutton and not far from the Wabash River. Access only by permission. Call (812) 462-3391.
Markle Mill Park has 8 acres, situated on Mill Dam Road on Otter Creek in northern Vigo County. Historical site.
