West-central Indiana is blessed with bountiful numbers of ponds and strip pits that add scenic beauty to the area and provide for fishing and recreation. Some pond owners are starting to wonder how they can make that pond on their property work for them. A pond management workshop scheduled for June 9 will educate pond owners on aquatic weed identification and management, as well as how to get started raising fish for personal consumption or sale, using cage culture. The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Fowler Park, Shelter B in Vigo County south of Terre Haute.
Preregistration is required by Friday and registration is limited on a first-come, first-served basis by date of payment received. Cost is $5. The workshop is sponsored by the Purdue Extension, Sycamore Trails Resource Conservation and Development Council and the Vigo County Park Department.
To register, call the Sycamore Trails office at (765) 653-9785 or go to their Web site, www.sycamoretrails.org, to download a registration form. For more information about the program, contact Jim Luzar at (812) 462-3371 at the Purdue Extension-Vigo County office.
