Union Hospital Foundation announces scholarship recipients

Nearly $30,000 in scholarships were awarded to 26 individuals from the Wabash Valley during Union Hospital Foundation’s Scholarship Reception at The Landsbaum Center. The scholarships provide opportunity for students seeking careers in health care such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy and other academic majors.
“Scholarships are part of Union Hospital Foundation’s mission and are made possible by the generous gifts of our donors. Health care continues to go through tremendous changes; however, the essential mission of the hospital and health care providers remains unchanged: To provide compassionate care to restore health and sustain life. Hospitals and the communities they serve have always needed capable, qualified nurses, therapists and physicians. It is a privilege to honor these outstanding students on their excellent academic achievements and we wish them success in fulfilling their academic goals,” said Jim Bertoli, Executive Director of Union Hospital Foundation.
The following scholarships were awarded by Union Hospital Foundation and the Service League of Union Hospital:

• Donna Hux Scholarship for Hospice: Paige Hutchinson, Dental Hygiene, Lake Land College; Amy Ladd, Family Nurse Practitioner, University of Southern Indiana; Loretta Romanyk, Nursing, Indiana Wesleyan University
• Wanita I. & Ernest E. Hinshaw Nursing Education Scholarship: Kailee Roan, Nursing, Indiana State University
• Gertrude & Ralph Horton Grants-In-Aid for Nursing Education Scholarship: Jamie Cox, Nursing, Indiana State University; Kacey Hand, Nursing, Indiana State University

The mission of the Union Hospital Foundation is to support advances in medical care that benefit the patients served by Union Hospital and initiatives that promote the health and wellness for those residents who live in the Wabash Valley. The Foundation fulfills this mission by raising charitable gifts and grants, providing effective stewardship for gifts received and by awarding grants to Union Hospital and to select other organizations through which improvements in medical care and community health are realized. The Union Hospital Foundation receives charitable support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations who share the Foundation’s vision for a healthy, vital community.
