REIN Center Coalition library to open

The REIN Center Coalition will open the REIN Center Community Library two days a week with volunteers. A major goal is to obtain a computer that is capable of running programs to check out books, catalog them, and print bar-codes. A printer/scanner/copier will be needed for processing the books and other library tasks.

A “wish list” of items like tables, chairs, file cabinets, hand cart, book cart, desk for checking out books and other library items (along with their prices) will be posted at the May 17 Jonah Fish Fry in the Orange Building at Goshorn Park in Clay City. Through the generosity of Clay City USA, we will be opening the library in the old Collins building at 700 Main St.

When the REIN Center Community Building is built, the library will be transferred to it. Donations of items on the wish list or money to purchase them are being accepted. Donations may be made at Harris Bank in Clay City or at the library. The REIN Center Coalition is a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization; as such, any donations are tax-deductible.

The library has chosen to use white, plastic-topped tables that fold and their matching folding chairs for adults. The group has two small round tables and enough colored plastic chairs for children.

Peggy Taylor’s art class at Clay City High School will be painting the library name for the windows. K&K Hardware in Clay City has donated boards for bookshelves. Jim Mayrose has built one bookshelf from recycled boards and is in the process of building another with the donated boards. The Lions Club of Clay City will be donating money to purchase boards for more bookshelves.

Boxes and bags of books have been donated to the library. More than 200 books are ready for circulation.
