Bridge column: April 27, 2008

At the end of each quarter of the year, the Terre Haute Bridge Center board of directors will designate a certain game to honor the current top players in every player category. This Saturday is honor time for the following players: top 99ers, Margie Kintz; top 299er, Carolyn Steinbaugh; top 999ers, Tom Roberts; top male, Fred Ervin; top female, Laura Bright.

In last week’s column, we listed the top 999ers, but failed to mention Mary Lunsford who was a solid ninth among the 34 players then listed. At the end of the first quarter, the top players in the 299er division are: Carolyn Steinbaugh, Margie Kintz, Rick and Ann Kleinheksel, Joan Chervenko, Charles Parks, Maggie Oyer, Arlene Luchsinger, Connie Shattuck, Mona Sternfeld, Sharon Mason, Jim Jennings, Susan McCarthy, Alice Goodyear, Dr. Jayesh Ramolia, Barbara Phelan, Pat Knauer, Elizabeth Parks, Marty Cornelius, Bill Scott, Gretchen Weston, Jane Longfield and Patty Cottom.

Tana Holt has been very busy preparing another fun bridge night for all bridge players — party type, rubber or Chicago style, kitchen family style, Whist, Auction or contract. Even newcomers. She did the same for us last year and will repeat the same format on May 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Bridge Center at 303 S. 14th St. Tana is sending post cards. If you do not get one, come anyway. It is open to all. Free food, bidding or play tips when asked. Just a way to make bridge the fun game it’s meant to be.
