Bridge column: April 20, 2008
Tom Roberts is the new leader of the 999ers, players who had less than 1,000 master points at the beginning of the year. George Woodason is second. Both players racked up impressive results last month. At the start of March, Roberts was fourth and Woodason, a distant seventh.
Noreen Bryant leads the rest of this great group of players: Nancy Hanley, Diane Scott, Tana Holt, Don Reuland, Sharon Winters, Carolyn Steinbaugh, Phyllis Peters, Gloria Trader, Margie Kintz, John Clark, Rick Kleinheksel, Jim Dickey, Walter Sanders, Ann Kleinheksel, Joan Chervenko, Charles Parks, Maggie Oyer, Arlene Luchsinger, Connie Shattuck, Mona Sternfeld, Sharon Mason, Jim Jennings, Susan McCarthy, Alice Goodyear, Dr. Jayesh Ramolia, Barbara Phelan, Floyd McWilliams, Pat Knauer, Elizabeth Parks, Marty Cornelius, Bill Scott, Gretchen Weston, Jane Longfield, Patty Cottom and Richard Bernardoni.
Jim Gormong and Milt Van Reed handle all the logistics involved in staging the yearlong Top Twelve Teams competition. Placing first last year was Annette Clark and Don Florida. Fred Ervin was second with his No. 1 partner, Walter Sanders, and fill-in partners, Don Reuland and Hal Harp. Third place went to Richard Easton, Henjin Chi and Alan Sackrider.
Sharon Strassler and Janet Horton were fourth and in fifth, Judy Harris and John Clark. Jim Dickey and Frank DeSanto were sixth, the last position of import.
At the Fort Wayne Bridge Tourney in Flight A, Joanna Hebermehl and Milt Van Reed were first overall in a Friday event and fourth overall on Saturday.

Thursday — first, Jane and Jim Gormong; second, Connie Shattuck and Margie Kintz; third, Jim Jennings and Phyllis Peters.
Saturday — first (75% game!), Tom Roberts and Fred Ervin; second, Dan Dorney and Janet Horton; third, Mona Sternfeld and Arlene Luchsinger.
