TERRE HAUTE —
I had the honor of meeting an outstanding “Lady of the Outdoors”, 24 year old Krysten McDaniels. She has been hunting for seven years and she has a resume of animals she has taken only most men dream about with either a bow and arrow or a muzzleloader.
Starting out with a 24-pound turkey with a 11-inch beard, 1-inch spurs, 2nd was a nice doe, 3rd a 9 point buck that scored 115, 4th a 150-pound black bear that measured 5-feet long, 5th well… let’s just say a total of five gobblers, five bucks and at least 10 doe deer, with two hogs in Tennessee, one weighed 300 pounds and the other 350 pounds. Krysten weighs about 90 pounds soaking wet! Oh, yeah, she took two bucks with a muzzleloader that scored over 130 in Pope and Young standards.
Krysten’s husband Josh is second to none on all the animals he has harvested, too many to tell about except the buck he took last fall that scored 191, outstanding!
Josh just signed up with P.S.E. bow company pro staff, which is quite an honor. He is employed at Custer Bow shop as a bow tech, so now you get the picture.
This young couple really have their head on straight, with Krysten in school to be in marketing for outdoor equipment and they are big into the Kicking Bear program, which is set up to promote kids in the outdoors.
Mike Miller is on the pro staff for Muzzy Broadheads and heads up the program located at Shakamack State Park.
It is a 24-hour event with each kid placed with a mentor who teaches all aspects of outdoor safety. They shoot bows on the 3D archery course, and sit in on demonstrations such as, birds of prey, snake identification, bloodhound trailing, law enforcement K9 unit, and turkey calling.

On their wedding day they had wedding pictures taken with bow and arrows in hand while in their tux and gown. How dedicated is that?
We need more young people like Josh and Krysten. They are an outstanding couple. Krysten, you are truly a Lady of the Outdoors.
