Scrooge, Santa at Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix Theatre will present two one-act Christmas plays in December. Performances will be at 7 p.m. CST on Dec. 13, 14, 20 and 21; and at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 15. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. The Phoenix Theatre is at 512 Archer Ave., Marshall, Ill.

In “Son of a Christmas Carol,” once again we visit Scrooge. This time, though, it’s not Egenezer Scrooge, but his great-grandson, Engelbert Scrooge IV. Instead of a counting house in merry old England, the scene is the headquarters of Scrooge Enterprises in downtown Manhattan. Will Scrooge learn the lessons provided by the ghosts? Scrooge’s descendent may have a few surprises up his sleeve.

The second act is “When Ernest Believed in Santa,” a family Christmas story. Every family has some Christmas mishap they laugh about years later. This play joins Martha and Buster as they reminisce about the Christmas of 1955, of how Santa came to be at their home that year — yes, that’s right, Santa.
