Ritz Follies signups scheduled

Parke Players will be conducting signups for the ninth annual Ritz Follies at 7 p.m. July 1 and 2 at the Ritz Theater in Rockville.

The 2013 Ritz Follies show will be presented at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at the historic theater located a half block west of the square on U.S. 36 (Ohio Street) in Rockville.

The first Ritz Follies was presented on July 30, 2005, to an enthusiastic audience with a lineup of more than a dozen of the Wabash Valley’s budding entertainers. Singers, dancers, musicians, actors and puppeteers all provided an evening of entertainment to help raise funds for the ongoing restoration of the historic Ritz Theater.

The seven subsequent summer follies events have drawn even larger crowds as the annual event grows in popularity.

In February of  2009, Parke Players presented the first Winter Follies show. The winter show also continues to grow in popularity as new talent emerges each year.

Follies proceeds will go toward improvements of the Ritz Theater production facility.

Those wishing to participate should attend the sign-ups, which are not auditions, but organizational screenings for placement in the production. Everyone who signs up will appear in the show. Participants need to bring their favorite music background CD or live musical accompaniment. A professional audio system and a Baldwin grand piano are available for use.
