See ‘Oz’ in final performances at Maple Avenue Theatre

TERRE HAUTE — The Maple Avenue Summer Musical Theatre brings the wonder that is “Oz” to the stage for its final performances this weekend. A cast of more than 50 sing and dance their way down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City. “The Wizard of Oz” comes alive this Friday for its last weekend in the Family Life Center, Maple Avenue United Methodist Church at 12th and Maple Avenue.

Friday night features the show and concessions. Tickets are $15; doors open at 6:30; the show starts at 7.

Saturday night features a dinner theatre, with doors opening at 6 and dinner served at 6:30; tickets are $30.

For the Sunday matinee, doors open at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.

An elaborate set, rich costuming and a live orchestra surround the multitude of voices and extensive choreography. Lyric soprano Erin Reger grabs the lead as Dorothy with the force of the Kansas tornado that landed her in Oz. Equally, David Landes as the Tin Man, Michael Grubb, the Cowardly Lion and Vance Martinez, the Scarecrow, bring to this classic story an animated sparkle.
