TJ Thomas & Kentucky Strait to play Opry

Special to the Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — TJ Thomas & Kentucky Strait is coming this weekend to the Boot City Opry south of Terre Haute on U.S. 41.

The show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $11.

Kentucky Strait has played on stages all over the United States. Based out of Michigan, Kentucky Strait puts together a true “countryfried” band.

Thomas formed Kentucky Strait nearly 15 years ago. Since then, Thomas has shared the stage with some of country music’s giants, including The Oak Ridge Boys, Steve Wariner, Tom T. Hall, Mickey Gilley, David Frizell, Anita Cochran and Conway Twitty. He has performed throughout Canada and the United States. Thomas released three singles on REBA records, charting up to No. 3 on the Indy Country charts.

Ron Stewart plays bass in the band. Stewart worked with several rock ensembles before joining Kentucky Strait including national country acts Stonewall Jackson and Cochran.

Jim Morris plays steel guitar. Morris has been playing country music all of his life, working in the past with Cochran and Twitty even on the Lawrence Welk road show.
