During the current season, Shawnee Summer Theatre of Greene County has presented the musical “The Taffetas,” the comedy “Boeing Boeing,” the “Shawnee Variety Show,” and most recently, the family show “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
The theater has also faced some difficulties. With the rising costs of utilities, rights and royalties, hardware, lumber, fabric, gas and other materials, the Shawnee Theatre is seeking fundraising opportunities.
To continue with the thriller “The Woman in Black,” “Treasure Island,” and the Children’s Theatre Education Program (featuring “James and the Giant Peach”) the theater needs to increase its donations in the next two weeks.
Small donations of under $25 can purchase new screws, trim for costumes, glow tape and other necessities. Donations of up to $50 can create an entire costume (or a few), lumber to build sets and a show’s worth of colored gel and patterns for the lights. Donations of $100-$200 can pay one or two of the actors’ salaries for a week. Slightly larger donations can make up the entire budget for the scenery, costumes or props for a production.
A Shawnee fundraiser is set for 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Pepperoni Grill. The event will feature performances by Ryder McQueen and others. Donations are requested.
